Grass River Nature Area

Located just south of Bellaire, the preserve consists of over 1300 acres and miles of meandering waterways. It is naturalists and photographers dream come true. A great place to stroll around and take in nature at its finest. Admission is free. Special nature topic classes (usually an hour or two) offered all year. Guided tours by request. It contains about 7.5 miles of trails which includes about 1 mile of wooden board walkways through cedar swamps. There are over 400 species of plants, 49 species of mammals, and 65 species of birds. Snowshoe and cross-country ski events are held in the winter.

Located a few mile east of East Jordan, Raven Hill is a hands-on, indoor and outdoor, museum connecting technology, history, art, and nature. Open all year. Admission is $7.00 Focused to kids, but adults will also enjoy the experience and learn a thing or two. There really is a lot to choose from, so please visit their website. Snowshoe and cross-country ski trails available in the winter.
Swiss Hideaway Canoe Rental

Located between Mancelona and East Jordan, Swiss Hideaway is just XX miles from Cedars Resort. Canoes, Kayaks and tubes are available rental. Trips usually take ~ 3-4 hours between the livery itself and the Rogers Road take-out point. The Jordan River is pristine and one of the finest trout fishing rivers in Michigan. The river is typically slow, although there are a few places with minor rapids. The depth of the river is typically between 2 to 4 feet. You will see very few hints of civilization while on the river. However, you will see fantastic scenery, lots of wildlife and pristine, crystal clear water. Bring a picnic lunch and you can enjoy it wherever you decide stop and take a break.

Just use our kayaks and canoe and paddle around the Upper Chain O' Lakes. FREE to those staying at Cedars Resort. Numerous lakes connected by streams. Slow moving water. Beautiful wetlands, wildlife, including nearby wildlife sanctuaries.
